The main feature of isothermal forging is that the mold and the formed part are processed at the same temperature, so mold heating and temperature control devices are required. Isothermal forging generally has a low rate, and hydraulic presses are mainly used.

Isothermal forging of wheel forgings has stricter requirements on temperature and speed than isothermal forging in general sense, and the microstructure of the blank should basically belong to the superplastic type. However, there is no sharp difference between the two. In some isothermal forging processes, after the billet is deformed to a certain extent, on the one hand, the structure is refined and the isothermal forging generally decreases with the progress of the deformation.
